Lammey: Focus on dominant Broncos d-line, not struggling o-line

Early in training camp, Brandon Stokley said he’d envisioned the Denver Broncos offensive line being a little more productive.

The “Stokley and Zach” host said he’s not “casting judgment” on the unit, that it’s early in camp and the offense usually “starts off a little slower than the defense.”

“I was expecting to see a better product early on in camp,” Stokley said.

But “Pritchard and Cecil” host Cecil Lammey said Tuesday the “concern” about the Broncos offensive line is misdirected, and, instead, eyes should be looking to the opposite side of the ball.

“… It says more about the guys on the defense than it does about the guys on the offensive line,” Lammey said.

Lammey cautioned Broncos Country to avoid going into “full panic mode” about any offensive line struggles because the Denver defensive front is extremely talented.

“Yes, this Broncos defense could be that good,” Lammey said. “And yes, this pass rush could be back to 2015 levels.”

That season, aside from being the top-ranked defense in the NFL, Denver’s pass rushers sacked the quarterback a league-high 52 times.

Lammey’s co-host Mike Pritchard said he believes the defensive line and edge rushers for the Broncos have a starting point of “domination,” and all its going to do is “get better.”

“This is why I have the concern for the offensive line because your starting point is way down here,” Pritchard said. “Even if you get better, you’re just going to catch up to where the Broncos defensive line is starting. I don’t want that big of a difference.”

Broncos guard Ron Leary echoed Lammey, however, on Tuesday, saying the unit isn’t necessarily “A-1” at the moment but they’re working to improve, which is the “main thing right now” just four days into camp.

“I think we can improve in all aspects of it. Just from the communication part, to assignments, to blocking,” Leary said. “We’ve been doing a good job, but it’s nowhere near where it should be or where we want it to be.”
