Schlereth lauds Rockies response to comments from Nolan Arenado

Jul 6, 2018, 8:19 AM

Last week, Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado revealed in an interview with The Athletic he’s “tired of coming to the ballpark and losing,” among other frustrations with how the club had sunk to toward the bottom of the National League West in the previous month.

And with those comments, “Schlereth and Evans” host Mark Schlereth said, reading between the lines, Arenado making a “kind request to be moved” to the Rockies front office.

“Whatever you throw at him right now, I don’t believe he’s going to take it because he wants to go somewhere where he has a chance to compete in the playoffs every year,” Schlereth said.

Since that point, however, the Rockies have lost just once, winning a road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and sweeping the San Francisco Giants at home this week.

And in winning five of its last six games, Schlereth said the organization, manager Bud Black, and the players have “listened” and “responded” to Arenado’s comments.

“He put the whole organization on blast, and I applaud the organization. I applaud the guys on the team. I applaud Bud Black and the front office,” Schlereth said. “Apparently, everybody listened.”

Schlereth also lauded Arenado’s honesty, saying that the clubhouse has “so much reverence to the way he plays the game that I think everybody listened, everybody got on board, and the results are what we’ve seen here the last week.”

“You know what, Nolan? Keep being honest, man. Keep spitting out the truth,” Schlereth said. “Hopefully, this baseball club continues to be motivated the way they’ve been motivated the last couple of series because (they) have been on point. No question about it.”
