DMac, Lammey: No winner on Day 4 of Broncos QB competition

Jul 31, 2017, 12:00 AM | Updated: 2:54 am

For the time during training camp, there seems to be a consensus on the two Denver Broncos quarterbacks vying for the starting job.

“Not really” might be an understatement to the question of did Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch performed in the on the first day of pads Sunday, but that’s the words head coach Vance Joseph chose.

“Did I like what I saw? Not really. Both guys had issues today,” Joseph said after practice. “I didn’t like what I saw today. Honest. They both struggled today.”

The first year coach didn’t “mince words,” something DMac called refreshing, and neither did both “The Drive” co-host and Fan Broncos Insider Cecil Lammey after practice.

“I wrote down, ‘Worst offensive performance I’ve ever seen throwing the ball in my 17 years of covering the Broncos in training camp,’ DMac told “Schlereth & Evans” after practice Sunday at the UCHealth Training Center.

Said Lammey: “Today, all I know is what I saw offensively from the QBs was poor from both of them. So, I cannot call this day a win for either one.”

Joseph said putting on the pads “creates a different mindset,” and the thinking and anxiety go up, not to mention offensive coordinator Mike McCoy put in “a bunch of ‘check with me’ calls’ in to, as DMac described it, test Siemian and Lynch.

“So, they were testing them. And they failed,” DMac said. “They made today hard on both guys on purpose, and they weren’t up for the task.”

The Broncos return to the field for a fifth straight day of practice on Monday before taking an off day on Tuesday.

Fans and listeners can vote on whether they believe Team Paxton or Team Trevor won the day starting at noon at denversports.com/thedecision.
