Dr. Ramos & Zach Bye discuss why playing in the preseason matters for the Broncos | Injury Insights
"Preseason is officially in the books, and all three games have been played. But was Sean Payton’s decision to play his players the right approach from a medical perspective?"
Dr. Ramos explains why he believes in the importance of football conditioning and why preparing to play football requires more than simply working out. Playing at game speed, wearing pads, taking hits, and conditioning the body can help prepare the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and nervous system for the physical demands of an NFL season.
Dr. Ramos also explains the role of neuromuscular conditioning and why going from training directly into regular-season football without experiencing game-speed contact can be a shock to the body — potentially increasing the risk of injuries such as muscle tears and hamstring strains.
Despite the injuries the Denver Broncos experienced during the preseason, Dr. Ramos believes Sean Payton’s approach could ultimately help set the team up for a healthier season.
