Dr. Ramos & Zach Bye discuss Brenton Doyle's Oblique | Injury Insights
The oblique muscles run along the sides of the ribcage and play a major role in twisting, bending, hitting, and throwing. Dr. Ramos explains that these muscles generate a significant amount of the force involved in trunk rotation, making them especially important for baseball players.
According to Dr. Ramos, oblique injuries can occur from sudden, forceful movements—such as the explosive twisting and contraction involved in swinging a bat or throwing a baseball. A true muscle strain or tear can take months to recover from and may have a tendency to recur.
Dr. Ramos also explains why Doyle’s oblique will remain something to monitor throughout the season. If symptoms return, it could raise concern that the injury involved more significant muscle damage and could make a full return more difficult.
Watch the full discussion for Dr. Ramos’ insight into Doyle’s injury, how oblique injuries happen, why they can linger, and what to watch for as the outfielder gets back into action.
