Terrell Davis has company again with a running back as Super Bowl MVP

It took 28 years, but Denver Broncos legend Terrell Davis has company once again.

Seattle Seahawks bruiser Kenneth Walker III won MVP of Super Bowl LX on Sunday night.

It’s kind of shocking, but that’s the first time a running back has won Super Bowl MVP since Davis did it for the Broncos all the way back in Super Bowl XXXII.

That game was played on Jan. 25, 1998 with Denver topping the Green Bay Packers 31-24.

Terrell Davis was a monster as the Broncos upset the Packers and earned the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy. He went for 157 yards on 30 carries and three touchdowns. He also caught two more passes for eight yards and even played while he couldn’t see because he had a migraine headache.

On Sunday, Walker was the best player on the field, rushing for 135 yards and securing another 26 yards through the air. The Seahawks pounded the Patriots 29-13 in a game that was even that close.

It’s hard to believe it’s been this long since a running back took home MVP honors. Sure, the NFL has become more pass-happy over the years, but some elite rushers have played in the biggest game in sports between now and then.

No one expected Terrell Davis to be in the headlines after what Walker did, but that’s indeed the case. The Hall of Famer was in Santa Clara on radio row last week and is still very active in the Colorado community.

We’ll see if it takes another 28 years before a running back wins Super Bowl MVP once again.
