Sean Payton focused on Broncos ‘fast start’ against Bengals, not Eagles or London

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is only thinking about the task at hand.

Not the miles his team will accumulate in the skies over the next couple of weeks.

The 1-2 Broncos need a win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. Not only is Denver coming off back-to-back heartbreaking losses, but Cincy is without QB Joe Burrow for the next couple months.

The Bengals got drubbed by the Vikings, 48-10, last week, and the Broncos have to find a way to get back to .500 on the young season.

Empower Field at Mile High should be electric, and Sean Payton has spoken to his Denver players about this big opportunity.

“We talked about playing at home, obviously, playing a national TV game. It’s important. I think it’s something these players understand,” Payton said on Saturday. “It’s important we start fast, we’ll have a good crowd behind us, we should take advantage of that.”

And after, the Broncos will go East then even further East. Next Sunday is a showdown in Philadelphia against the defending champion Eagles. After that, it’s a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to take on the New York Jets in London.

“The focus is really on this game, this team. Our advanced scouts and all the people that are in charge of Philly get to do that. Our focus is on winning this one,” Payton said.

Sean Payton then joked he’s given his passport to his assistant Paul Kelly, but that’s all the thinking he’s done about the journey to England.

The Broncos and their head coach are clearly locked in on the Bengals, and that’s what fans will like to hear.

Those next two games will come eventually, but a victory in about 48 hours is of supreme importance.
