New Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson isn’t officially on the team yet, but he’s already helping out.

The blockbuster trade that sent the QB to Denver last week will be official on Wednesday when the new NFL league years starts. In the meantime, Wilson is trying to bring one of his former Seahawks teammates with him to Denver.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler dropped quite the scoop on Monday afternoon.

The Seahawks released Wagner last week, and he’d be a massive addition to the Broncos defense. The team needs inside linebacker help, and Wagner is one of the best in the league over the last decade.

In 151 career games, all with Seattle, Wagner has 1,383 tackles, 23.5 sacks, 11 interceptions and six forced fumbles. He’s been a first-team All Pro six times and has been selected to eight Pro Bowls. Wagner would immediately help Denver’s inside linebacking corps, with the fate of free agents Josey Jewell, Alexander Johnson and Kenny Young unclear.

The “legal tampering” period for free agents opened on Monday morning, and guys can officially start inking new deals on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. MST.

Wilson and Wagner entered the league together with the Seahawks at the same time, and by all accounts are great friends. We already knew Wilson was all in with the Broncos, but if he can bring Wagner along for the ride, that would be a massive get for GM George Paton and the Denver defense.
