Report: Broncos offensive lineman Dalton Risner available for “right price”

The NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday.

And the Broncos could be front and center swinging deals.

This all started last Sunday, when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Denver was receiving calls about edge-rusher Bradley Chubb, along with wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. The Chubb rumors have only picked up steam this week, with one report suggesting he’s “likely” to be traded if Denver loses to the Jaguars on Sunday.

Go ahead and add another name to the list of guys who might be possibly be moved. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, offensive guard Dalton Risner could be acquired by another team for the “right price.”

Risner, like Chubb, is playing out the last year of his rookie deal. While Chubb was selected No. 5 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, Risner was picked a year later, at No. 41 overall in the second-round. The former Kansas State star is also a hometown kid, growing up in Wiggins, which is about an hour Northeast of Denver.

Risner’s been solid, but not spectacular, in his 3.5 seasons with the Broncos. But he’s also been incredibly reliable, starting in all 16 games his first two years and 15 of 17 in 2021. He’s started every game for Denver thus far in 2022.

Much like Chubb, if the Broncos do move Risner, it would be to get compensation now as opposed to letting him walk in free agency this spring. GM George Paton has to decide who he sees as long-term solutions on this roster, and who he needs to get value for now. The trade deadline is in just six days, on November 1.

A lot of this may hinge on if the Broncos win or lose this weekend. Fall to 2-6 and it could be a fire sale. Crawl back to 3-5 and maybe everyone sticks around, Risner included.

It should be a fascinating few days.
