Taylor Rapp is officially back with Broncos, starts on practice squad

It took the weekend, but the Denver Broncos have officially signed veteran safety Taylor Rapp to the practice squad.

Rapp had a tryout with the Broncos on Friday, then on Monday morning multiple reports came out he inked a deal to be on Denver’s practice squad.

Taylor Rapp actually spent six days on the Broncos in late August, but then was released to deal with a personal issue. Head coach Sean Payton had made it clear he thought Rapp would be back and now that’s indeed the case.

Denver is set at starting safety with Brandon Jones and Talanoa Hufanga, but have some questions behind them.

P.J. Locke departed for the Cowboys in the offseason, so the depth chart lists Devon Key, JL Skinner and Tycen Anderson as the backups. All three guys are known more for their contributions on special teams.

Rapp spent each of the last three seasons with the Bills, but only played six games in 2025 due to a knee injury before being cut in the spring. He was previously a Super Bowl champion with the Rams.

And now we’ll see how long Rapp spends on the Broncos’ practice squad before an elevation to the 53-man roster becomes a potential option.

It’s good depth for Payton and GM George Paton and nice to see Taylor Rapp back in the Mile High City a week before the season officially gets rolling.
