He may not be here, but Jerry Rosburg extremely bullish on Broncos future
While Rosburg won't be the coach in 2023, the Broncos would be wise to find him a role; it's clear he has an abundance of knowledge and is a leader

The Broncos will try to win one for Jerry on Sunday.
Jerry Rosburg, that is, the team’s interim head coach. Rosburg spoke on Wednesday about wanting a victory before his short, two-game tenure as Denver’s leader expires. Still, he’s been impressive in his limited time since taking over for the fired Nathaniel Hackett.
And while Rosburg won’t be the head coach in 2023, the Broncos would be wise to find a role for him. It’s clear he has an abundance of football knowledge and is a natural leader. Plus, Rosburg is very high on the future of this team, even if the last seven years have been miserable for fans. He spoke about that at his press conference on Thursday.
“I recognize what you all have seen. Because you’ve seen a longer — the desert period of time during this. I see a number of things in place that give hope, give people faith that we’re going to get to that point in the promise land where all this is going to bloom,” Rosburg said.
Full of metaphors, Rosburg can always be counted on for a good soundbite. He also expanded on why the future is bright, providing specific examples. Rosburg started with the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group (WPFOG).
“It starts at the top. I’ve been so impressed by our ownership group. Greg (Penner) and Carrie (Walton-Penner), and Mr. Rob (Walton) are incredible people. I would say an uncanny version of football, and understanding of it, that comes from outside the industry,” Rosburg said.
He went on to mention his time in Baltimore with owner Steve Bisciotti. He says the WPFOG possesses the same set of skills that have made Bisciotti a successful owner. And that’s an understanding of business and people, something they’ve mastered while maintaining one of America’s most well-known brands in Walmart.
Rosburg closed by talking about the players, even the injured ones. He reminded fans a lot of talent will return to the field in 2023.
“There’s a lot of new players in the locker room, you all know that. But I was in the training room the other day and I just came from the weight room, and there’s some really good football players in this organization. Some we haven’t seen for a while (and) I haven’t even seen at all. There’s talent on this team,” Rosburg said.
When edge-rusher Randy Gregory went on IR the other day, he became the team’s 21st player on that dubious list. Offensive guard Dalton Risner and running back Marlon Mack have since expanded the number to 23. It’s truly unfathomable how many players, and good ones, missed a large chunk of this season.
So, whether Rosburg is here or not, he has faith in the future. Broncos ownership would be wise to give him some sort of job, as he’s earned it over the last 10 days.
