Bo Nix pens beautiful letter to his daughter full of faith, hope and motivation

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix penned a beautiful letter to his daughter Riley.

It was published in The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday morning, nearly 2,000 words full of faith, hope and motivation.

The whole thing is worth reading as Nix clearly put a lot of thought into it. Riley entered this world in late February, a little more than a month after Nix broke his ankle in the NFL playoffs against the Bills. He would miss the AFC Championship Game the following week, a heartbreaking Denver loss that left them one step short of the Super Bowl.

“I want you to hear it from me, in my own words. I want you to know how I’ve leaned on my faith in Jesus and our family to keep moving forward. Not just in the context of this season, but as a man, a husband, an athlete, and now as a father,” Bo Nix wrote.

He knows Riley wasn’t yet born for any of these moments and of course won’t remember them. But hopefully some day she can read about them directly from her dad.

“It hurt. Bad. Not just physically. It hurt because I love playing the game with my teammates. It hurt because we’ve built something really special. It hurt because when you’re that close to something you’ve dreamed about your whole life, you don’t want it taken out of your hands,” Nix wrote of his fractured ankle.

Bo Nix says he was “very bored” after the injury, but then everything changed after his wife Izzy gave birth to Riley.

“And after you arrived … well, suddenly the stillness didn’t feel miserable anymore. It felt like a gift. I got to be there. Fully there. Not thinking about the next drive or the next season. I was able just to hold you and listen to you breathe,” Nix wrote.

He talks about Izzy being the strongest woman he knows and being able to take care of both him and Riley at their “most vulnerable moments.” It really is touching to read.

And as for next season, Bo Nix is nearly ready to go, something that’s been reported for weeks but is officially coming from him.

“As I write this, I am finishing up rehab for my ankle — and learning how to rock you back to sleep at 3 a.m. I’ll be back on the field soon. Stronger. Wiser. Hungrier. But if I’m being honest, the biggest win of this past season wasn’t a playoff game,” Bo Nix wrote. “It was being slowed down long enough to hold you in my arms and realize that sometimes God’s plan doesn’t look like what you prayed for.”

The Broncos QB also talks a lot about struggles his family faced when he was younger and how inevitably Riley will go through hardships as well.

But through all of it, leaning on faith, family and teammates has gotten him to where he is today. The entire letter is a great read to find time for — even during a busy day.
