Broncos add a running back with their fourth-round pick

Broncos Country wanted a skill position player in the draft. They finally got their wish on Saturday.

Coleman will join a running back room that includes JK Dobbins and RJ Harvey. Dobbins rushed for 772 yards in just 10 games, while Harvey scored 12 touchdowns as a rookie.

But the newcomer will be in the mix. He played two years at Arizona and two more at Washington, producing in both stops. His NFL.com profile suggests that he’s a cerebral runner, more so than a breakaway talent.

“Team captain and productive three-down back. Coleman has a clear understanding of run-blocking schemes and protection duties. He knows where blocks are likely to develop and finds those spots. However, he lacks speed as an outside runner and has average burst between the tackles. He’s more of a tackle-slipper than a tackle-breaker, so it’s imperative that Coleman plays at a brisker pace to stay ahead of closing defenders. He projects as a Day 3 option who can compete for a job as a three-down backup.”

The Broncos needed to add playmakers this offseason. They did so with the Jaylen Waddle trade, bolstering their wide receiver corps. And they did it again on Saturday, adding another option in the backfield.
