Broncos make final three draft picks, including Mr. Irrelevant

The Denver Broncos had a busy Saturday in the NFL Draft.

They addressed running back and tight end earlier in the day then made their final three picks in the seventh-round, including Mr. Irrelevant. That’s the nickname given to the last pick of the draft, which the Broncos made with selection No. 257.

Denver also had pick No. 256, the second to last, as well as selection No. 246.

To get the party started Broncos GM George Paton and head coach Sean Payton went with Illinois safety Miles Scott. He played five years with the Illini and had 64 tackles and three interceptions as a senior in 2025.

He finished his college career with seven picks, 182 tackles, two fumble recoveries and 11 passes defended. Scott also had two pick-sixes for touchdowns, both in 2023.

With the second to last selection of the festivities Denver went back to the tight end well, selecting Dallen Bentley out of Utah. He had 48 catches for 620 yards and six touchdowns for the Utes in his senior season, blowing all his previous statistics out of the water.

It’s the second straight year that the franchise has gone with a Utah TE in the seventh-round, taking project Caleb Lohner in 2025.

And with Mr. Irrelevant the Broncos picked Red Murdock, a linebacker out of Buffalo. He had 156 tackles in 2024 and 142 in 2025. Murdock also had nine career sacks and a ridiculous 17 forced fumbles.

We’ll see if any of these guys make the 53-man roster, but it’s additional options for Payton and Paton as a Super Bowl window continues to be wide open in Denver.
