Coach Prime isn’t done with the health problems yet, says he’s ‘still going through something’

Coach Prime’s health has been a mystery for the Colorado Buffaloes and their fanbase all summer long as they gear up to kick off the third year of the Prime era in Boulder. He has missed a handful of important events, including 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter’s wedding, as he’s dealt with the undisclosed woes that have been holding him back.

At Big 12 Media Days just two weeks ago, Prime shot down the only question about his health issues, and said that he was present to talk about his team rather than his health. He looked healthy and happy as he answered questions with a big smile on his face, but it’s now clear that he’s not fully out of the woods just yet.

Prime’s oldest son, Deion Jr., posted a new video to the Well Off Media Youtube channel which shared some insight into what’s been going on at the Sanders’ home down in Texas recently. Right at the start, Prime said something that might be a little alarming to Buffs fans.

“You know I’m still going through something, I ain’t all the way recovered,” Prime said.

The 57-year-old Colorado head coach was also wearing a bright red hoodie in the video, a shade that some to the northeast would call Husker Red. Some fans probably didn’t like to see their coaching repping that color.

In the video, Prime was seen shooting a basketball, was on the tennis court with a racket in hand after some lessons and took a walk with his youngest daughter, Shelomi. At least he’s making some kind of progress back towards being healthy enough to coach a successful football team in the ultra-competitive Big 12.

“I’m proud. We’re getting better though, right?” Sanders said.

Preseason camp is just a week out for the Buffs, as the players are scheduled to report to Boulder on Sunday the 27th before kicking off practices on Monday the 28th. The first game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, an opponent that should not be taken lightly, is just a month after that on Aug. 29. This is a big season ahead for Prime and the Buffs, as it’s the program’s opportunity to show the world that the success from 2024 is sustainable without Hunter and Shedeur Sanders wearing the black and gold in Folsom Field.

Prime did say back in June that he was excited to get back to Boulder and that he was doing better, along with the fact that Buffs faithful will know and be “updated on everything” regarding his health. Almost six weeks later, CU fans still don’t have a whole lot of information on what’s going on with the man who revived their football program.
