Coach Prime delivers a health update that’s a sigh of relief to CU fans

Colorado football fans got a health update that they didn’t want to see on Tuesday, and it had nothing to do with the guys playing on the field who are aiming to build on last year’s 9-4 campaign. It was reported that Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, the man who revived CU football, was away from the team and dealing with an unspecified illness down in his estate in Texas.

The entire college football world poured in their thoughts and prayers for the 57-year-old coach, who is no stranger to health complications. He has struggled with blood clots in recent years, which has led to him getting a handful of procedures and two toes on his left foot amputated. For being one of the most hated people in the entire sport, the support he received was a nice –albeit stark — change from the norm.

On Wednesday, Coach Prime posted an update on his X page, and seemed to be in the best spirit possible for someone dealing with health issues.

“I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other,” Prime said in the post. “I have so much more work to do to Glorify God so please believe God got me!”

In Coach Prime fashion, he finished it off with a variation of the phrase that Buffs fans have heard oh-so-many times since he stepped foot in Boulder back in December 2022, “I’m coming.”

Prime was not at the team’s annual Youth Football Camp on Tuesday due to the health issues, and will not be there on Wednesday either. His contract mandates him to be at a minimum of three summer camps the team offers throughout the offseason, but there are still a handful more for him to be at throughout the rest of June.

Prime also made it clear in his statement that whenever he is back in Boulder and ready to rock for the upcoming season, Buffs faithful will know and be “updated on everything.”

The NFL Hall of Famer recently signed a 5-year, $54 million contract extension to keep him in Boulder through the 2029 college football season. The contract made him one of the highest paid coaches in the entire country, up there with the Kirby Smart’s and Steve Sarkisian’s of the college football world.
