The Colorado Rockies have been the laughingstock of the MLB through the first 61 games of the MLB season as they have been putting together one of the worst seasons in history. Whether it’s been Bud Black or Warren Schaeffer calling the shots for Colorado, it’s been a season of doom and despair on Blake Street.

However, the Rockies finally strung together a consistent stretch of play over the last 48 hours with two straight wins on the road against the Miami Marlins, and were rewarded with their first series win of the season, and first in 22 tries. After the game, Schaeffer was happy for his team, and didn’t care that they had to wait until June to get in the win column for an entire series.

“That’s big time for the boys to get that first series win,” Schaeffer said with a smile postgame. “Who would’ve known it wouldn’t come til June, but that time is now.”

The Rockies fell behind in the third inning before tying the game up in the fifth and putting it to bed in the eighth thanks to another home run from Hunter Goodman. It was the 25-year-old catcher’s third home run of the series and 10th of the season.

It’s been easy for the baseball world to pick on the Rockies this year, and especially for Chicago White Sox fans who saw their team set the record for the most losses in a season in the modern era just months ago. Colorado has been the worst team in all three facets of the game — hitting, pitching and fielding — a true eyesore to watch for anyone who appreciates the game of baseball.

At the end of the day, the emotion is what stood out from the Rockies’ interim skipper. He didn’t care that the team’s record still says 11-50. He didn’t care about all the blowout losses the team has suffered throughout the first 61 games. He didn’t care about the struggles on the mound. He just cared about his guys finally getting the job done — albeit against a bottom-tier opponent in the Marlins — and made sure to express his gratitude for his players.

“It’s nice to get a couple wins. Yeah. It’s good to get that first series win. Now we just move forward,” Schaeffer said.

The first pitch for the third and final game of the series is set for 10:10 a.m. MDT from LoanDepot Park in Miami. The Rockies are eyeing their first series sweep since May 15 of last season when they took town the San Diego Padres to cap off a six-game win streak, and their first three-game win streak since Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.
