Warren Schaeffer isn’t worried about all the records the Rockies are setting
The Colorado Rockies set yet another franchise record for the wrong reason in Sunday's win over the Atlanta Braves, but interim manager Warren Schaeffer wasn't concerned with the bad history

The Colorado Rockies had their biggest win of the season over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon, putting a 10-spot in the run column for just the fourth time this season. The 10-1 victory, the Rockies’ biggest win of the season, improved their 2025 record to 14-57 as they closed out the three-game stint in Atlanta.
While the Rockies got the win, they set yet another record for the wrong reason, this time in the history books of the franchise instead of the entire MLB. In the final two games of the series, the Blake Street Bombers (when’s the last time the club has lived up to that nickname?) struck out 35 times, setting a franchise record for most strikeouts in a two-game span (no extra innings). They also set the club record for strikeouts in a single nine-inning game on Saturday, with 19.
Of the 35 strikeouts, only six were looking. Atlanta’s pitching staff had all the stuff on how and where to get them to chase pitches down in the count to rack up the K’s.
The starters for the Braves did most of the heavy lifting, as Spencer Strider tallied 13 strikeouts in six innings on Saturday while Grant Homes got 16 K’s in six and a third. Rockies interim manager made sure to give credit where it was due on Sunday.
“He was just good, his fastball had life today, he had hop on it, he had cut on it. The slider was good, he was really good. He was like Strider yesterday,” Schaeffer said after the Father’s Day victory.
Despite the high strikeout total, Schaeffer wasn’t concerned about the records that his team was setting, and had his mind locked in on the club’s victory.
“Dude, you’re talking about all these records, we won 10-1, that’s all I’m worried about,” Schaeffer said.
Schaeffer hasn’t had a lot of wins to be focused on during his time as the Rockies skipper, with this being just the seventh win in 31 games since the franchise fired Bud Black back in May. The team almost has more low-level milestones than wins this season as they continue to hit every mark for “worst X game start in the modern era” along with hitting struggles like most strikeouts in a game or most consecutive innings in franchise history without a run scored.
It’s important to look at the bright spots this season that are few and far between, but failing to look at the wrongdoings and mistakes is why the Rockies are one of the worst teams in the 149-year history of baseball and the laughingstock of the league this year.
