Bo Nix’s third season hasn’t started the way anyone in Denver hoped, but his offensive coordinator Davis Webb thinks a turnaround is close.

Davis Webb spoke to reporters after practice on Thursday and said he believes the Broncos quarterback is about to find his rhythm. Through six games, Nix ranks 21st in the NFL with 1,049 passing yards, 22nd with six touchdown passes and 30th with a 38.5 QBR.

“I think he’s (Bo Nix) in a good spot,” Webb said. “I think yesterday he handled media really good. You know, took a little bit of accountability, backed up his teammates, and I think he’s ready to go on a little run.”

Webb was pointing to Nix’s Wednesday press conference. There, Nix said plainly, “I have to play better,” after Sean Payton had said the same thing about himself earlier in the day. That was a change in tone from earlier in October, when Nix called the talk about his struggles “a narrative” and said he didn’t think he was playing any differently than usual.

The scrutiny has grown in recent weeks. Prime Video’s Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tony Gonzalez ripped Nix after last Thursday’s overtime win over Seattle, a game in which he threw for 107 yards. Nix has acknowledged the offense’s biggest problem. “We’re really struggling to find those explosive plays,” he said after that game .

Davis Webb compared Nix’s situation to that of another young quarterback who turned his season around.

“I think Trevor Lawrence did something similar last year. And he had a great end to his campaign last year and it’s kicking into this year. He’s doing a great job. And hopefully Bo can follow that trend.”

Lawrence’s 2025 turnaround is a good example. Jacksonville’s quarterback needed more than half the season to get comfortable in Liam Coen’s offense. Then he took off, throwing 19 touchdowns and five interceptions down the stretch as the Jaguars averaged an NFL-best 33.6 points per game and won their last eight regular-season games. He finished as an MVP finalist. That form has carried into this season, including a four-touchdown game against Houston in Week 6.

Davis Webb has a stake in this beyond being Nix’s coordinator. He was Nix’s quarterbacks coach before his promotion, and he called plays for the first four games of the season before Payton took the job back. Webb now stays in the game-planning role.

Davis Webb, Bo Nix, and the Broncos will get a good chance to start that run on Sunday. The 4-2 Broncos visit the 2-4 Arizona Cardinals, whose defense is allowing 29.7 points per game, tied for the most in the league. Kickoff at State Farm Stadium is 2:05 p.m.
