Bo Nix feels like he’s ‘back into the mode of the game’ as return creeps closer

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has been waiting for Sept. 14 for a long time.

It’ll be his return to an NFL game that counts after a brutal end to last season.

Nix led the Broncos to a dramatic overtime win against the Bills in the playoffs, but broke his ankle in the process. After two offseason surgeries, he’s been ready to go for a couple of months now.

He played in the preseason against the Packers, but Monday Night Football against the Chiefs in Week 1 will be a whole different test.

Nix was asked about the wait after practice on Wednesday.

“I think every year when you start, there’s gonna be things, we haven’t been playing for five, six months. There’s gonna be things to get back and get going again. But when I was out there against Green Bay it was kind of like a carry over of last season,” Bo Nix said.

And Nix looked good versus the Packers. He completed 6-9 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown, leading scoring drives in both his series. Head coach Sean Payton saw enough to not play Nix in the preseason finale against the Vikings.

Nix is already shifting his focus to regular season mode, having completed this journey through two NFL seasons and entering year three.

“It feels like you go from one game to the next once you play football long enough. Fortunately, I feel like I’m at a position in my career that I do feel like I just get back into the mode of the game and can see things and get my eyes up and all that. But there’s definitely going to be adjustments I have to make on the run,” Bo Nix said.

Those in-game adjustments will be key against a Chiefs team coming off a disappointing 6-11 season after appearing in five Super Bowls during the Patrick Mahomes era.

For Nix, he sounds ready to roll — treating this like another game. But there’s no doubt the winner will be in the early AFC West driver’s seat and fans are hoping that’s Bo Nix and the Broncos.
