DENVER — The Broncos didn’t make use of many core regulars Friday night against the Minnesota Vikings. Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. was one of the few — but he didn’t make it past the first series before he was injured.

Mims landed awkwardly while going up for a third-down pass on the Broncos’ first possession and suffered a foot injury. Not long after he departed, he was officially listed as questionable by the Broncos in the official injury announcement.

The fourth-year wide receiver popped back up and jogged to the sideline, flanked by team medical personnel. Mims threw his helmet in frustration as he reached the Broncos sideline area, then sat down on the bench. But the pop-up blue medical tent was already up at the south end of the bench area, and after a brief conversation with a member of the team’s medical staff, Mims stormed to the tent for examination.

Shortly after that, Mims went back to the team’s locker room.

Mims and Troy Franklin both started Friday night, working with quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Franklin remained in the game for the second series.

Wide receivers Jaylen Waddle, Courtland Sutton and Pat Bryant were not in uniform for the game, which would appear to indicate that they are the top three in the room. While it’s no surprise for Waddle and Sutton, Bryant’s inclusion among players given the night off would appear to show that the second-year Illinois product has gained separation from Franklin and Mims.
