Colin Cowherd says Broncos ‘can’t extend Bo Nix’ and ‘need a new flight plan’

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has been a popular target for national radio host Colin Cowherd this season.
Cowherd went after Nix in September, something that raised eyebrows because he’s tight with Broncos head coach Sean Payton. Cowherd explained that coaches “fall out of love overnight” with players.
Well after Nix struggled in an ugly 23-17 win over the Chargers, Cowherd was back at it on Monday.
In his eyes, the Broncos can’t extend Nix this offseason when many thought he might get a new contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Colin Cowherd starts his rant by comparing NFL QBs to parents raising children, getting a reality check their kid won’t be President of the United States, but perhaps president of a college fraternity.
He talks about the slow starts continuing to be an issue for the Broncos, even with Payton taking back offensive play-calling from Davis Webb. Denver punted on its first series in L.A. — but did at least score a first quarter touchdown.
Cowherd also discusses how Denver’s total offense is below the hapless Dolphins and that the Broncos went 1-12 on third-down on Sunday, something that irked Payton.
Star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is visibly frustrated and Cowherd doesn’t think it’s a skill-player issue or a Webb problem, he thinks it’s a Nix issue. The Broncos QB has a lower first quarter passer rating than Cam Ward who’s looking like a bust with the Titans.
It’s important to note that Cowherd isn’t calling for Nix to be benched, he instead wants this season to play out. But he’s not on board with the Broncos giving Nix a huge extension in the offseason.
“We need a new flight plan,” Colin Cowherd says about what the Broncos should do with Nix moving forward.
Does any of this mean that Denver won’t give Nix a contract in the spring or at the very least pick up his fifth-year option? Of course not.
But again, Colin Cowherd and Payton are close. So it should be considered more (given the source) than a different media member berating the play of Nix.
