Broncos assistant GM Burckhardt won’t be heading to the Vikings

Broncos assistant general manager Reed Burckhardt made it to the second round of interviews for the Minnesota Vikings’ general-manager vacancy. But that was as far as the rising personnel executive got in the process.

The Vikings opted to hire Seattle Seahawks assistant general manager Nolan Teasley to replace Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who was dismissed by the team in January, ensuring that the Broncos will not lose an assistant general manager for a second-consecutive year.

In 2025, the Broncos saw Darren Mougey, Burckhardt’s predecessor in the position, depart for the New York Jets.

Burckhardt was one of five finalists to interview in-person with the Vikings, along with Teasley, Vikings interim general manager Rob Brzezinski, Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Terrance Gray and Los Angeles Rams assistant general manager John McKay.

BURCKHARDT HEADS INTO HIS FIFTH BRONCOS SEASON

Burckhardt followed general manager George Paton from Minnesota, signing on with Denver in 2022 as the team’s director of player personnel. He spent 13 seasons with the Vikings in various capacities prior to joining the Broncos.

“He’s real important to our process,” coach Sean Payton said of Burckhardt last June. “He’s passionate, and you have to be in that business. It can be lonely. It’s not for everyone. Hotels, laptop computer, film. He has a real good eye for talent. He’s not afraid to give you his opinion even if it’s contrary to maybe what you want to hear.”
