Broncos assistant GM getting second interview with Vikings

When an NFL team becomes really good, that means everyone within the organization is doing a great job. Unfortunately for the Denver Broncos, they could be losing their assistant GM Reed Burckhardt.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS, the Minnesota Vikings have requested Burckhardt for a second interview for their GM opening.

Burckhardt’s first interview with the Vikings came on May 12, per Chris Tomasson.

After the Broncos lost former assistant GM Darren Mougey to the New York Jets as he became their GM, the Broncos promoted Burckhardt to assistant GM back in 2025.

Before he joined the Broncos front office, Burckhardt spent three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings as the director of pro scouting, assistant director of pro scouting, pro scout, area scout, personnel department assistant and operations intern.

Once George Paton got the Broncos GM job, he made sure he brought Burckhardt because of how bright he was and how he stood out during their time in Minnesota.

Burckhardt played college football as a backup quarterback at South Dakota State University from 2004 to 2007. After his playing days, he became a student assistant coach for the Bison before landing his first role with the Vikings back in in 2009.

After spending 13 years in Minnesota, Burckhardt joined Paton in Denver.

The Vikings will also interview interim GM Rob Brzezinksi, Bills assistant GM Terrance Gray, Rams assistant GM and Seahawks Nolan Teasley.

“I think Reed’s going to be a future general manager,” former Vikings GM Rick Spielman told Luca Evans last year.

We’ll what the future holds for Burckhardt as the Broncos would like to keep him, but clearly Minnesota is interested.
