Sean Payton says Broncos ‘believe in it’s going to happen’ after dramatic OT win

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has been involved in some wild games during his tenure as an NFL head coach.

He added another one to his resume on Sunday night against the Washington Commanders.

The Broncos escaped with a dramatic 27-26 win in overtime. Nik Bonitto was one of many heroes, batting down a two-point conversion that would’ve won it for the Commanders on the final play.

After the game, Sean Payton was in an expected good mood and feeling chatty. He shared some things of interest, including the belief the 10-2 Broncos now have.

“When you win nine in a row… you do begin to believe in it’s going to happen. But there can’t be that false belief. There has to be that preparation and the corrections so that the next week is better,” Payton said.

Denver was 1-2 after three games, including two heartbreakers to the Colts and Chargers, but has won nine in a row. They’ve been on the right side of some thrilling finishes during this impressive streak.

“There was a lot of back and forths with that game. It’s a great game to win, it’s a tough one to lose,” Payton said. “The journey of a good team’s season involves games like this. And then you believe you can do it again,” Payton said.

Clearly, the players inside the locker room think they’re going to win every single week. This one was probably more stressful than it needed to be against a bad Washington team, but Sean Payton wasn’t having it when a reporter suggested the Broncos escaped with a victory.

“We don’t escape, we won. We won. And so, we won a close game in overtime,” Payton said.

That close win has the Broncos slated for a happy flight back to Denver from the East Coast. The No. 1 seed remains a realistic possbility after another heart-stopping triumph.
