CU Buffs finish miserable season on five-game losing streak, fall to Kansas State

The CU Buffs 2025 football season is finally over.

Oh, what a forgettable one it was.

Colorado fell to Kansas State 24-14 on Saturday afternoon, finishing a miserable campaign at 3-9 overall and 1-8 in the Big 12. The loss marked CU’s fifth straight to end the year and their fourth in the last five games that was decided by at least 10 points.

Head coach Deion Sanders had a great second season in Boulder, thanks in large part to Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, but this group never could find any real momentum. Quarterback Kaidon Salter was underwhelming in his final start for the CU Buffs, throwing for 172 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

Freshman QB Julian Lewis was benched for the game with Kansas State to preserve his eligibility for another four years. That was actually a smart move, considering the contest with the Wildcats meant nothing.

On defense, it was more of the same. Colorado couldn’t stop the running game, as Kansas State’s Joe Jackson carried the rock 26 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns. The Buffs actually cut the lead to 17-14 in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get a key stop as Jackson scored his third of the day.

The offseason will be full of questions in Boulder, including the status of Coach Prime, who the next offensive coordinator is and the future for key players like Lewis and star left tackle Jordan Seaton.

For now, football season is finished for the CU Buffs. The 3-9 record was utterly disappointing, with two of those wins coming over Delaware and Wyoming.

The real fireworks might begin in the coming weeks, whether coaching decisions or the transfer portal, as Saturday was simply an element of finality for a wildly underwhelming year.
