Courtland Sutton: Broncos winning on DT’s day makes it ‘that much more special’

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton spoke glowingly of his friend Demaryius Thomas earlier this week.

And on Sunday, when the Broncos put the late receiver into the team’s Ring of Fame, Sutton helped them pull off a stunning and wild win.

Denver rallied in the fourth quarter with 33 points to shock the New York Giants at the buzzer, 33-32. Courtland Sutton finished with six catches for 87 yards, including a massive one in the final seconds to set up a Wil Lutz walk-off field goal.

After the crazy victory, Courtland Sutton gave a long and thoughtful answer about his emotions on this memorable day in Broncos Country. Not only for what happened on the field, but remembering Thomas and his legacy as well.

“To drive in and see the impact that he had on the city, it was an emotional thing, man. To see so many 88 jerseys, to know that everyone came out to not only support the Denver Broncos, but there was a vast number of people that came to support the legacy that DT left with this organization,” Sutton said.

And things looked bleak for a long time, with Denver down 19-0 after three quarters. However, they never stopped fighting, and somehow improved to 5-2 this season.

“For us to be able to get a win on this day makes the day even that much more special. We didn’t want there to be a dark cloud over something as special as and as monumental (as this day),” Sutton said. “We didn’t want it to be an ‘L’ especially the way that it was trending before the fourth quarter.”

It wasn’t trending well, but QB Bo Nix took over, the defense made just enough clutch plays and somehow the Broncos escaped with an improbable win.

“To be able to put together a fight the way we did and come out with a victory on such a special day celebrating two iconic pieces of this organization, it was amazing,” Sutton said.

Denver honored Thomas and the 10-year anniversary of the Super Bowl 50 team as well.

Who knows what this season has in store for Courtland Sutton and these Broncos, but you can bet this is an afternoon they’ll never forget.
