Russell Wilson reaches a five-year contract extension with the Broncos

Sep 1, 2022, 7:00 AM

Russell Wilson will be in a Broncos uniform for the next seven seasons. At least.

On Thursday morning, the quarterback reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension with the team. He’s currently locked up through the 2023 season, meaning the new deal will keep Wilson in orange and blue through the 2028 campaign.

The contract makes Wilson the second-highest paid quarterback in the NFL. He trails only Aaron Rodgers in terms of average salary.

An extension has long been in the works. Since acquiring the quarterback in March, getting Wilson under contract beyond the next two seasons was a priority for the Broncos.

The franchise was unable to move on the deal, however, until the sale of the team was complete. The transition to the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group became official on August 9. A little over three weeks later, the new contract for Wilson is done.

Breath easy, Broncos Country. Russell Wilson isn’t going anywhere.
