It sure seems like Von Miller thinks the Broncos are rebuilding

Nov 4, 2021, 5:00 AM

Von Miller was beaming Wednesday afternoon.

The newest member of the Los Angeles Rams met with the media for the first time since being traded from the Denver Broncos on Monday, saying on multiple occasions it felt “like a movie” landing with a Super Bowl contender.

“You look at all the talent that we have … I went to sleep 4-4 and woke up 7-1,” Miller said of his new team. “On the back end of things, it’s not really that bad.”

Miller even called it a “dream come true,” adding, “The Denver Broncos, they definitely did me right by sending me to such a legendary franchise with a legendary team.”

The All-Pro pass rusher did admit that he did get emotional after he learned of the trade Monday, but even those emotions were colored with optimism about his new football home.

“I cried a lot on Monday, but all the tears weren’t sad. I had tears of joy too,” Miller said. “I’m coming here to play with Aaron Donald.”

Miller seemed genuinely excited to be with his new club, which is fairly revealing about the current state of the Broncos organization.

“This team ready to win now, ready to win championships right now, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Miller said.

And if you ask the Broncos right now, they’d say they’re a contender as well, or at least a .500 team in the hunt.

“You have to know where you are, but I still believe in this team,” Broncos general manager George Paton said on Tuesday. “We’re 4-4, and people think we’re 2-6. We haven’t played great football, and we’re 4-4. I’d like to think we’re going to play better and we’re going to get in the thick of it.”

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio doubled down on Paton’s comments on Wednesday as well.

“Nobody is surrendering here,” Fangio said.

But after a 3-0 start, the Broncos have lost four of their last five, and any reasonable football observer wouldn’t likely consider Denver a playoff caliber team.

Miller’s remarks just go to show that indeed the grass is greener in Los Angeles. And Denver remains under construction.
