No more excuses for Broncos pass rusher Bradley Chubb

Jun 29, 2021, 6:45 AM | Updated: 7:00 am

Considered a “can’t miss” prospect when he was drafted fifth-overall by the Denver Broncos in 2018, Bradley Chubb made an immediate impact with 12 sacks his rookie season.

And when Denver hired “defensive guru” Vic Fangio as its head coach in 2019, Broncos Country buzzed with excitement to see Chubb’s full potential.

However, it’s been nothing short of a disappointment since then, and now it’s time to put up or shut up for the young pass rusher.

Chubb ended up with a torn ACL during his first year under Fangio, grabbing zero sacks in four games with Von Miller opposite him. Last season, Chubb did make the Pro Bowl but only managed 7.6 sacks on the year — not exactly something to write home about.

Now, another year removed from his injury, it’s time for Chubb to prove he was worth the fifth-overall pick.

No more excuses. I don’t care if Miller was injured last season. It doesn’t matter that teams focus in on Chubb. If you’re great, just go and do it.

Not every pass rusher has another great player opposite them. And even then, Chubb and Miller combined for a whopping zero sacks in the four games they played together in 2019.

The time for excuses is over, and if Chubb doesn’t prove himself this year, he will not live up to his draft status.
