The Broncos practiced with cornerback Pat Surtain II and running back Jonah Coleman on the field for a third-consecutive day Friday, but both players were listed as questionable for Sunday’s trip to Arizona to face the Cardinals.
Surtain has been a limited participant in all three days of work this week, while Coleman has seen a full workload in each of the three days of practice. The Broncos designated Coleman for a return from injured reserve Wednesday; if he is to play Sunday, the team will have to make a corresponding move on the 53-player roster to free up a spot for him.
Not long before the official Friday injury report was revealed, Broncos coach Sean Payton declined to divulge whether Surtain would ply Sunday.
“We’ll see; we’ll see; we’ll see. We’re not announcing starting lineups now,” Payton said.
Even with the official designation, the likelihood of Coleman playing would appear to be high given that the Broncos will play Sunday’s game without fellow running back Tyler Badie, who was one of three players ruled out due to the thumb injury he suffered last Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Two other defensive players were ruled out, to no surprise: edge rusher Jonah Elliss and safety Talanoa Hufanga. Elliss suffered a right-ankle injury against the Seahawks and was seen at the CU-Utah football game two nights later on crutches and wearing a boot.
This will mark the second-consecutive game missed by Hufanga due to the ankle injury he incurred in the second half of the Oct. 11 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
BRONCOS UPGRADE WADDLE FRIDAY
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has practiced all week, but saw limited repetitions Wednesday and Thursday due to a chest injury. He was a full participant Friday and was listed without a game status, meaning he is good to go.
In Arizona, the Cardinals ruled out rookie running back Jeremiyah Love, who has been dealing with an ankle injury and missed last Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Three other starters will not play Sunday: right guard Jon Gaines II, defensive end Walter Nolen and safety Andrew Wingard. Eight-time Pro Bowl safety Budda Baker practiced Friday on a limited basis after not seeing any work Wednesday or Thursday; he is listed as questionable.
