Second Rockies assistant GM departs in as many weeks

Jun 23, 2021, 1:46 PM

The exodus from 20th and Blake continues, as for the second time in just a few days another Colorado Rockies assistant general manager is on the way out.

Nick Groke of The Athletic first reported Tuesday evening that Rockies farm director Zach Wilson has stepped down from his post after two decades with the team.

Wilson’s departure comes on the heels of fellow assistant general manager Jon Weil and the Rockies agreeing to mutually part ways last week. Weil, who had been with the club 16 years, oversaw player personnel.

Mired in a season of on-the-field struggles, including a Major League worst 5-28 record on the road, Colorado front office continues to shrink as the trade deadline looms.

A replacement for former vice president of scouting Bill Schmidt, who was elevated to interim general manager after Jeff Bridich’s resignation in April, has not been named.

Chris Forbes, the assistant director of player development under Wilson, could take on some additional responsibilities, Groke reports.

The departures of Wilson and Weil come after the appointment of Greg Feasel as Colorado’s president of baseball operations.
