DMac: Broncos doomed to repeat VJ path without organizational change

The dismissal of Vance Joseph by the Denver Broncos might not come as a surprise to many, but moving on from the head coach, to some, should be just the first step in a franchise-wide rebuild.

On Monday, “The Drive” co-host DMac said without wholesale changes within the Broncos organization, the team is destined to repeat the mistakes of the past few seasons.

“In all honesty, unless there’s total change within the organization, it’s hard to imagine this same path won’t repeat itself,” DMac said. “Vance Joseph is gone. Will another Vance Joseph be next or will the Broncos finally admit where they are and make the change necessary?”

The comments come a week after DMac said firing Joseph would just be “window dressing” if there’s not “significant change” in both management and ownership.

“The issues with the Broncos run so much deeper,” DMac said after Denver’s loss to the Oakland Raiders on Christmas Eve. “It’s mindboggling. I’m not even sure where to start.”

Earlier this month, after a loss to the Cleveland Browns ended Denver’s hopes of a postseason berth, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mike Evans said that if Broncos Country is “hell-bent on change in the coaching staff” he “wouldn’t mind seeing some changes in the front office as well.”

“I know (GM John Elway is) not going anywhere, but you look at his front office, it’s the same guys. They’ve all been in place since Day One,” Evans said. “You’re telling me you can’t bring in some new blood, new faces?”

As for who might replace Joseph at head coach, DMac said he believes it’ll be a “John Fox-type of approach” wherein the Broncos bring in a “seasoned coach with experience.”

Earlier this week, 104.3 The Fan’s Orlando Franklin said he hoped the Broncos would go that route, bringing in an experienced head coach, but did not expect the team to do so.

“It’s just not going to be a desirable job for these coaches,” Franklin said. “It’s desirable for these other assistant coaches that have never gotten a job before, so I think that’s the route the Broncos (take).”
