Franklin wants experience in next Broncos coach but doesn’t expect it

Should the Denver Broncos move on from head coach Vance Joseph after this season, 104.3 The Fan’s Orlando Franklin said on Wednesday he would ideally like to see the club bring in a coach who as “been there.”
“I don’t want to see the up-and-coming assistant coach. I don’t want to see that,” said Franklin, who filled in on “Schlereth and Evans” on Wednesday. “Because no matter what, whenever you go the assistant route, you’re going to have growing pains. It is what it is. And we just spent two years with Vance Joseph and going through those growing pains.”
Franklin’s co-host Wednesday, Mike Pritchard, agreed, saying that an experienced coach would bring “credibility.”
“Vance Joseph, as a first-time head coach, the credibility just wasn’t there to capture the attention of players who just won a Super Bowl,” Pritchard said.
However, neither Franklin nor Pritchard said they see a scenario in which the Broncos could land that type of coach in the team’s current state.
“It’s just not going to be a desirable job for these coaches,” Franklin said. “It’s desirable for these other assistant coaches that have never gotten a job before, so I think that’s the route the Broncos (take).”
A coach with the level of credibility of, say, Super Bowl experience, Pritchard said, would demand a “stable situation,” of which the Broncos do not have, especially at quarterback and in the front office.
“If you’re not stable, if you’re not seamless at the top, then a coach with the credibility of a McCarthy, a Harbaugh if he becomes available, or any other coach that’s had a lot of success, they’re going to want things differently,” Pritchard said. “They’re going to want to be able to do what’s necessary in order to fix it.”
