After dealing Chubb, Broncos trade for local edge to help replace him

Nov 1, 2022, 1:43 PM | Updated: 2:14 pm

The Denver Broncos sent out Bradley Chubb ahead of Tuesday’s deadline in a massive deal, netting them a first-round pick.

Quickly after the Chubb trade, the Broncos made another deal to help Randy Gregory, Nik Bonitto and Baron Browning replace Chubb. Denver picked up edge Jacob Martin and a 2024 fifth-round pick from the New York Jets in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2024. The deal was first reported by Ian Rapoport.

Martin is a local kid, a graduate of Cherokee Trail in Aurora. The former Temple Owl was taken in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and has bounced around. He spent one season in Seattle, three with the Texans and was most recently in New York. Martin, 26, has 15 sacks in his career.

Martin is signed for two-and-a-half more years on a $9 million contract, with only $1 million guaranteed.

Martin had a career-high 38 quarterback pressures last season and has had 14 this season. In eight games in 2022, he has eight tackles, one forced fumble and one-and-a-half sacks.

Martin was a two-star recruit coming out of high school and was offered by Colorado State and Wyoming before choosing Temple.
