New Broncos running back Max Borghi is ticked off.

Not at the team, not at the fans, but a little bit at NFL general managers.

The former Pomona high school star was signed by the Broncos earlier this week, but not after going undrafted and then just a five day stint with the Colts before getting cut in May. Borghi joined Nate Jackson and John Davis on 104.3 The Fan after Day 10 of training camp and says he felt like he deserved to be drafted.

“I feel disrespected through that whole process. It’s just put a big chip on my shoulder. Not even a chip, I’ve got a boulder on my shoulder,” Borghi said.

Borghi rolled his ankle before the NFL Combine, and therefore wasn’t able to participate. He thinks it hurt his stock.

“Obviously, the NFL combine’s the biggest interview of your life. It was disappointing. It hurts. That’s the interview you dream about,” Borghi said. “I felt like if I was healthy and able to perform there it would have definitely helped me out.”

Borghi said his game compares to former local Colorado high school stars Christian McCaffrey, Austin Ekeler and Phillip Lindsay. He knows he can be one of the best backs in the class of 2022.

“I feel like I’m definitely capable of being one the top backs in this class. Obviously, there’s been bumpy roads through everything. I’m very confident in myself and very confident in my game,” Borghi said.

But being brand new is tough, and he’s working as fast as he can to catch up with the rest of the Broncos.

“Compared to other rookies, they’re all months into this playbook and I’m on day two. It’s quick and it’s difficult. But I’ve been slowly picking it up and I’ve been studying on my own. Just be a sponge and pick up every little bit of information I can,” Borghi said.

At practice on Saturday, Borghi had the longest run of the day. One that even though he’s not allowed to be hit, would have gone for a big gain in a game.

“It felt good, just to get out there and play some football. I didn’t know where I was going to be and what the deal was going to be. Whether I was going to be playing football here or somewhere else. Just to go out and play football was a great feeling today, bust a run out,” Borghi said.

He grew up a Broncos fan and went to games and even attended training camp as a fan. Borghi said he got his football signed by all the players. Time flies, and now he is one of those players.

“Now I’m here, so it’s a little weird. It went quick. I just feel like yesterday I was in little league football and now I’m here on an NFL team,” Borghi said.

He’s got his work cut out for him, clearly behind Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon and Mike Boone on the depth chart.

But Borghi is channeling that boulder on his shoulder and the disrespect to fuel him. We’ll see if it translates to success on Sundays.
