Report: Nazem Kadri undergoes surgery, likely out for rest of playoffs

Jun 6, 2022, 3:44 PM | Updated: 4:06 pm

The Colorado Avalanche will look to sweep the Edmonton Oilers tonight without start center Nazem Kadri.

Unfortunately, they’re likely going to try to have to win the Stanley Cup without him as well.

TSN’s Darren Dreger provided an update on Monday afternoon that is quite a bummer for Colorado fans.

Kadri suffered the injury after a nasty cross-check by Oilers forward Evander Kane drove him into the boards early in Game 3. Avs head coach Jared Bednar was asked on Sunday if Kadri broke his thumb, but wouldn’t confirm or deny it. Based on this report from Dreger, it sounds like he did.

Kane was suspended for Game 4, but nothing more. Bednar briefly addressed the suspension on Monday, but basically said he had better things to focus on.

Overall, this is a massive buzzkill. Kadri has been one of Colorado’s best player this postseason, racking up 14 points with six goals and eight assists. He also faced racist death threats from Blues fans during Round 2, so he overcame a lot.

Are the Avs deep enough to overcome this injury and win the whole thing? Of course. Is it a major blow with either Tampa Bay or New York looming in the Stanley Cup Final? No doubt.

(Update 4:06 p.m.) –

Kadri added a comment to TSN’s Instagram post about the news, saying “Ya we’ll see ..” in regards to whether or not he’s out for the postseason

Kadri is obviously as tough as they come and loves proving people wrong, so we’ll see indeed.
