NHL suspends Oilers forward Kane for nasty cross-check on Kadri

Jun 5, 2022, 4:07 PM

The NHL has suspended Oilers forward Evander Kane one game following his dirty cross-check on Avalanche center Nazem Kadri during Game 3 Saturday night.

Colorado head coach Jared Bednar told reporters postgame Kadri is out for the rest of the series, if not longer. Kadri has been one of the Avalanche’s best players this postseason, racking up 14 points with six goals and eight assists. He also faced racist death threats from St. Louis Blues fans during Round 2, so he’s overcome a lot.

When asked on Sunday if Kadri had a broken thumb, a rumor that began to circulate earlier in the day, Bednar wouldn’t say whether or not that is the case.

The Avs currently lead the Oilers three games to zero in the Western Conference Finals, with Game 4 slated for Monday night. Edmonton will be without Kane, and rightfully so, but the Avs will be without Kadri as well.

Hopefully Kane’s season is over with his team getting swept into oblivion, while the Avalanche make the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2001.
