Clayton: The Broncos are well-positioned to deal with early injuries

Sep 15, 2021, 8:45 PM

Though it’s scary that guard Graham Glasgow missed practice on Wednesday with an irregular heartbeat, the Broncos did receive some encouraging news. Linebacker Bradley Chubb was able to practice.

He missed the opener with the ankle injury that has bothered him all offseason. Though it’s too early to determine if he’s going to play, it would be nice for Vic Fangio to get Chubb on the field.

The fortunate thing for the Broncos is they don’t have to play him the entire game the next two weeks. Their easy opening schedule gives Fangio the option of breaking Chubb in slowly. Denver plays Jacksonville and the New York Jets, teams that combined for three wins last year, and have rookie quarterbacks and struggling offenses.

If the Broncos are going to be a playoff team, it’s important Chubb gets to play with Von Miler. Without question Miller got off to a great start last Sunday against the New York Giants. He was everywhere. Miller had three tackles, two sacks and three tackles for losses. He also had three hits on the quarterback.

The defense should be all right even though Ronald Darby isn’t going to play due to a hamstring injury. Patrick Surtain should handle his outside cornerback position well. Defensive end Shelby has a wrist sprain and is iffy. The Broncos probably won’t risk Glasgow in this game so Netane Muti at right guard.
