Clayton: The long-awaited Miller and Chubb reunion may be put on hold

Just when all signs pointed to the long-awaited reunion between Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, Chubb now has issues.
First, the linebacker was detained in Douglas County, Colorado, because of an outstanding warrant that was issued for a failure to appear in court for a traffic violation. Chubb was stopped Tuesday morning for a minor traffic infraction. Police learned about the past warrant, so he was detained until Tuesday afternoon.
That wasn’t going to keep him out of the opener. But on Wednesday, the injury report came out and Chubb was on it. He was the only Bronco who didn’t practice. He aggravated an ankle injury.
“Bradley’s ankles are still trembling some,” Vic Fangio explained. “He’ll get some work on the side and then we’ll see where he is tomorrow.”
The ankle apparently has been bothering him for more than a week. On Wednesday, it was a little worse.
Fangio isn’t ruling Chubb out for Sunday, but it has to be a concern. The Chubb-Miller combination is one of the most important in football. If both are healthy and play well, the Broncos could get 25 combined sacks out of the two of them. Fangio would be willing to spot play Chubb if the ankle remains a problem by Sunday when the Broncos play the New York Giants.
Fangio did address the Chubb warrant issue. He said he had a good friend in Greenwood Village whom he considers a high-standing caliber and had a similar thing happen.
“He was paying a traffic citation and the next thing you knew, he went through the same thing that Bradley went through,” Fangio said. “Bradley is a high-standing individual just like that guy is. It’s over and done with.”
