Clayton: Broncos ownership situation won’t be a distraction in 2021

The start of training camp is great news in Denver and around the NFL. But I think the best news of the week for the Broncos is that they aren’t determining what will happen with ownership until after the season.
Joe Ellis gave a detailed press conference on Tuesday. Obviously, he didn’t go into whether the team will go to Pat Bowlen’s daughter Brittany or it will be sold. That’s a topic for after the season. But at least everyone knows where it stands for this season and that’s important.
The Broncos remain the Broncos. What the team didn’t need is a distraction.
With the losing seasons of late, the team needs to focus on 2021 and get back to winning. For personnel, the team is great shape with George Paton at general manager.
He upgraded the secondary to be one of the best in football. He brought in Teddy Bridgewater to challenge Drew Lock at quarterback. He made a significant move to improve the running game by drafting halfback Javonte Williams.
It’s also important so see how well Vic Fangio can do with this team. He’s done well with the defense, which was expected. It’s the offense that has been the disappointment. If the team has another losing season there will probably be a head coaching change. Change is often not good, but the roster is good enough to win.
I am getting the feeling the family may sell the team, but I’m guessing like everyone else. The key for this year is the players, coaches and everyone can just concentrate on football. That’s a good thing.
