Broncos Country should root for Drew Lock to win this QB battle

Jul 27, 2021, 12:00 AM

As the Denver Broncos start training camp this week, the most important position still has more questions than answers.

Drew Lock vs. Teddy Bridgewater is not exactly the ideal situation for Broncos Country. With Bridgewater being the ideal backup and Lock still trying to prove he can even play in this league, it’s not a great situation. But Broncos fans should be rooting for Lock to win the competition and be the starting quarterback in 2021.

Bridgewater is not a terrible quarterback. He’s just a finished product, and we know what that product is. He won’t go out and lose you games, but he certainly isn’t putting a team on his back. He’s the perfect backup and/or mentor to a young up-and-coming QB.

If Bridgewater wins this competition, the Broncos do not have their franchise quarterback.

Lock is still trying to prove he is good enough to play in the NFL. He’s started 18 games, and it hasn’t been pretty 90 percent of the time. If he can’t beat out Bridgewater, his Broncos tenure is certainly over.

However, if Lock wins this quarterback battle, hope remains he could be the franchise guy in Denver. If he does beat out Bridgewater, he still has a lot to prove, but hope remains alive.

This is what Broncos Country should be rooting for. One quarterback could still be the answer the Broncos are looking for; the other clearly is not.

If Bridgewater wins, neither quarterback is the answer for the future. If Lock wins, he could possibly be the answer.

It’s not the greatest scenario for this team, but it is what it is.
