Bednar is the longest-tenured coach in Avalanche history. In five years with the team he has posted a regular-season record of 184-149-39 and 24-19 in the playoffs.
The Avalanche were recently knocked out of the playoffs by the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the second round.
Colorado blew a 2-0 series lead after winning Games 1 and 2 at home, and became the eighth straight Presidents’ Trophy winner to bow out of the playoffs without making the Stanley Cup Final.
According to Dater, Bednar is one of only three NHL coaches to have taken his team to at least the second round in the past three seasons.
