Wilderness workouts shaped Quinn Meinerz into NFL lineman

Most of the athletes drafted into the NFL over the past few days likely had access to elite-level trainers, programs and facilities — or at the very least a football field.

But almost like a scene out of “Rocky IV,” Denver Broncos third-round pick Quinn Meinerz took to a remote island in Canada between college seasons to chisel himself into an NFL-ready offensive lineman.

“For two summers, I definitely did that. I was using the resources that I had while I was up there on that island,” Meinerz told reporters Friday night after being drafted 98th overall in the third round.

“It was a remote island in the middle of nowhere in Canada, so I had to use the tools that I had to keep getting workouts in to make sure I was prepared for the next football season.”

Also like “Rocky IV,” there’s footage of Meinerz — affectionately nicknamed “The Gut” — taking to the woods to knock down trees, chop wood and lift heavy things.
