Midway through the second half of Super Bowl LV, some shocking news came across Twitter timelines. Pedro Gomez, the longtime ESPN baseball reporter, had passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58.
The news sent shockwaves through the sports world. Gomez was a very well-respected journalist, a fixture on ESPN’s coverage of Major League Baseball since 2003.
It was also stunning and saddening news at The Fan, where Gomez had served as a Rockies insider. Just last week, the reporter took a break from his vacation to appear on the station to discuss the Nolan Arenado trade.
“My relationship with Pedro goes back a decade; I’ll always remember him calling into my show during television breaks of the Home Run Derby that he was hosting on ESPN because he thought it would sound cool and wanted to help me,” said Raj Sharan, the program director at Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan. “When I was hired here at Bonneville, I was thrilled to help bring him over to The Fan, where I always loved hearing him come on to talk baseball.”
Our condolences go out to the everyone in the Gomez family, at ESPN and everyone who worked with this top-notch reporter during his illustrious career.
