Don’t gloss over the huge test that Drew Lock passed on Sunday

Drew Lock passed a huge test in the Broncos victory against the Chargers. It wasn’t a perfect game, in fact, it wasn’t even close.
Lock threw an awful interception, missed some open wide receivers, and struggled to move the ball for the first two and a half quarters. But then came the fourth.
Something clicked for Lock in the fourth quarter. In the final two-and-a-half minutes, Lock completed 9 out of 12 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.
This does not mean Lock has arrived. All eventual great QBs need to pass this test and Lock did just that.
For a young QB to lead a game winning drive is huge, I don’t care if it’s against the 0-8 Jets or the 7-0 Steelers. This is a big deal.
Now that we can acknowledge Lock took a huge step in his career, there is a lot to critique. One, it was the Chargers, who are better at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory than any team in history. The Broncos were terrible for the first three quarters; they cannot expect to do this against good football teams.
We still need to see Lock put it all together for four quarters, but let’s not breeze by this victory. If Lock ends up being the guy, this is a game we will look back on.
The Broncos are now 3-4, but have won three of their last four. Sometimes games like this can turn around a season.
The Broncos have some very winnable games coming up. It’s crucial for this organization that Lock carries over this momentum. If he does, his future in Denver will become clearer.
