Sunday served as a cold, harsh reality check for Broncos Country

Oct 27, 2020, 6:29 AM

The Broncos received a reality check on Sunday against the Chiefs. In a non-competitive game, which proved to be their 10th-straight loss to Kansas City, Denver learned that they are nowhere close to being a contender in the AFC West.

The Chiefs are significantly better than the Broncos in every aspect of the game. They are better at quarterback, in terms of playmakers, at head coach, in the front office, etc. The Chiefs defense is consistently better than the Broncos offense, and their offense is consistently better than the Broncos defense.

The gap between the Chiefs and Broncos is seismic. And Denver has a long way to go before they can start comparing themselves to their AFC West rival.

The Chiefs showed they don’t need Patrick Mahomes to play his best football to beat the Broncos. Kansas City’s quarterback completed 15 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown. This was not a typical Madden-type performance from Mahomes, and it didn’t need to be. The Broncos have now lost 10-straight games to the Chiefs by an average of 30-16.

The gap between Denver and Kansas City can’t remain like this forever, but the Broncos have a lot of work to do before they cannot only be compared to the Chiefs, but to even compete with them. The Broncos are a bad football team and in order to catch up with the Chiefs, they’re going to need to make some drastic changes to this franchise, particularly who is drafting and evaluating players.
