Broncos Injury Report: A fluke injury was a sign of things to come in Buffalo

If anyone was looking for a sign as to how the day would go for the Broncos against the Bills, a pregame incident would’ve provided a good clue. In a relatively innocuous drill during warmups, defensive end Shelby Harris was injured by his own teammate.
Shelby Harris suffered sprained left ankle during pregame. Stepped on Dalton Risner’s foot. Played first half, couldn’t play second. Leaving with foot in boot but says “I’ll be fine.” #9sports

This was a big blow for the Broncos, as Harris was coming off of his best game as a pro. Last week in Minnesota, the defensive end recorded a career-high three sacks. Following up on that performance was going to be a key for Denver against the Bills.
Instead, the Broncos were forced to go with Adam Gotsis a lot in the trenches. And just like earlier in the season when Gotsis was a starter, the defense got shredded on the ground.
On Sunday, the Bills rushed for 244 yards. While not entirely due to Harris being limited in the first half and on the sidelines in the second, that situation certainly didn’t help matters.
For the Broncos defense to return to form on Sunday, getting Harris back on the field will be vital.
