Broncos Injury Report: A key player returns for Denver

Sep 30, 2019, 7:00 AM

The Broncos list of inactive players for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars showed that injuries are starting to pile up for Denver. Three key free-agent acquisitions weren’t on the field, as they recovered from various injuries.

Ja’Wuan James missed his third straight game, as he recovers from a knee injury suffered against the Raiders in the season opener. The timetable for the right tackle’s return remains murky.

Bryce Callahan remained on the sidelines, where he’ll be for quite some time. The cornerback has yet to play this season, something that isn’t expected to change for four to six weeks as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

And Kareem Jackson joined the list of big-money players who weren’t on the field yesterday, missing the game due to a hamstring injury. Being down another starter in the secondary left the Broncos thin, requiring players like Duke Dawson to see significant action.

It all wasn’t bad news for Denver on the injury front, however. For the first time since suffering a pectoral injury during a preseason loss to the Seahawks, Andy Janovich was back on the field. As the Broncos try to rev up their rushing attack, getting their lead blocker back in action is very positive news.

In addition, two players who were questionable against the Jaguars also were able to go. A week after being carted off the field in Green Bay, Derek Wolfe played against Jacksonville. And linebacker Josey Jewell also was in the starting lineup, although he did re-aggravate his hamstring injury in the loss
