Should the Broncos pursue linebacker CJ Mosley in free agency?

Ahead of free agency, which sits about a month away, Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio told The Gazette’s Woody Paige over the weekend that he’s not interested in “Band-Aids” in terms of roster fixes.

“We can’t do everything to just get to 8-8 now and be 3-13 in 2021. Does that mean that we won’t get a veteran in free agency that will help us for a year or two? We can do that. But we can’t go and throw a bunch of (stuff) against the wall and hope it sticks,” Fangio said.

But among the potential free agent pool this offseason, Orlando Franklin found a target that is not only a veteran but also could be a long-term solution for the Broncos: Inside linebacker C.J. Mosley.

“The more I think about it and the more I listen to Vic Fangio’s comments, the more I like that. C.J. Mosely was a four-time Pro Bowler. He’s played a ton of football. These are the type of guys that you want to get in here, guys who are available week in and week out,” Franklin said. “It’s going to be very pricey to get him here. But if you could get a guy like that, that’s a quality inside linebacker. You know the Broncos are looking for one right now.”

According to Pro Football Focus, Mosley ranked 22nd in the NFL among all linebackers in 2018 on the way to his fourth Pro Bowl. And at 26, the Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker skews on the young side in terms of five-year veterans in the league.

“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley on Monday called Mosley “physical” and a guy that could bring the “nasty” back to the Broncos defense.

“Now you’ve got a middle centerpiece to go with your two edge rusher. And you put him with Vic Fangio, I really like that,” Stokley said.
